To arrange a doctor home visit in Cyprus, start by calling your personal doctor or a practice that explicitly offers home visits. Confirm that a doctor can attend your address, whether the service is suitable for the situation, the cost and what follow-up is included. GESY home visits have specific eligibility rules; they are not a general on-demand service for every beneficiary.
For an emergency, call 112. Do not wait for a scheduled home visit. The European emergency number connects callers to emergency services, including ambulance assistance.
Does GESY cover doctor home visits?
The Health Insurance Organisation’s personal doctor services guidance describes home visits for permanently bedridden beneficiaries who meet the relevant criteria, with a maximum of six visits a year. Ask the registered personal doctor or HIO to confirm eligibility and the arrangements for the individual patient.
GESY’s outpatient specialist guidance states that specialist home visits are not covered. Do not assume that having a specialist referral automatically provides a specialist consultation at home.
The GESY Contact Centre can clarify coverage questions on 17000. A home nursing service, a doctor consultation and other home support are different services; ask which one is actually being arranged.
How to enquire about a private home visit
Ask a practice whether it offers private home visits and whether it serves the exact address. Availability can differ by doctor, area, day and the patient’s circumstances. A clinic being based in Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca, Paphos or the Famagusta area does not mean it visits every nearby town or village.
Describe the reason for the request accurately so the practice can decide whether a home visit is appropriate or whether another setting is needed. Do not assume an online listing or a “contact us” button guarantees same-day or out-of-hours attendance.
Questions to ask before confirming the visit
- Who will attend? Confirm the clinician’s name and professional role.
- Is this suitable for the patient? Give the practice enough information to assess the request.
- Where and when can the visit take place? Confirm the full address, access details and expected arrival arrangements.
- What is the total fee? Ask about consultation, travel, out-of-hours charges and any additional services.
- What can be done at home? Ask about the practical limits of the visit and how further assessment would be arranged.
- What happens afterwards? Confirm how you will receive advice, records and follow-up instructions.
Ask for the agreed scope and fee to be confirmed through the practice’s normal booking process. Our private doctor cost guide explains why fees should be checked with the provider rather than inferred from a general price online.
Prepare for the visit
Give the practice a contact number, accurate address, building access instructions and any relevant mobility or communication requirements. Ask whether a relative or carer should be present and agree how the patient wishes them to be involved.
Have a current medication list, relevant recent documents and the questions you want to ask available. Share records through the provider’s agreed route rather than posting them publicly. Make sure there is a suitable space for a private conversation and examination if needed.
A home visit does not guarantee that every investigation or treatment can happen there. Ask how the doctor will explain any need for tests, a clinic appointment or hospital assessment.
Home visit, video consultation or home nursing?
These options should be described accurately when you contact a provider:
- A doctor home visit means a doctor attends the patient’s location.
- A video or telephone consultation is remote contact, with limitations that the clinician should explain.
- Home nursing or care support involves a different professional role and service scope.
Ask the provider which service fits the request. Do not book based only on a broad phrase such as “home healthcare” without checking who attends and what is included.
Frequently asked questions
1. Can any GESY beneficiary request a free doctor home visit?
Do not assume that. The published personal doctor home-visit provision has specific criteria. Confirm the patient’s eligibility and any applicable arrangements with their doctor or HIO.
2. How much does a private doctor home visit cost?
Get a current quote from the provider for the exact location and time. Ask which services and additional charges are included before confirming.
3. Can Doctors Cyprus guarantee a doctor will visit my home?
No. Doctor profiles can help you identify practices to contact, but availability, suitability and home-visit arrangements must be confirmed directly with the provider.
Find the right contact
